What Is an FFL Transfer?
Federal law requires that any firearm purchased online or from an out-of-state dealer be shipped to a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) near you.
The FFL dealer — in this case, Gun Hobbies — receives the firearm, verifies your identification, processes the required background check, and releases the firearm to you.
It's a straightforward process, and our staff walks you through every step. We handle transfers for handguns, rifles, shotguns, and other regulated items.
Note: The NICS background check is processed through the SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED). In most cases, approval is returned within minutes. Delays are determined by SLED/FBI — not Gun Hobbies.

How the Transfer Works
From the moment you place your order to the moment you walk out with your firearm — here's exactly what to expect.

Purchase Your Firearm
Order from any reputable online retailer — GunBroker, Guns.com, Bud's Gun Shop, a private seller, or another FFL dealer.

Provide Our FFL Info
Give the seller our FFL information so they can ship directly to us. Download our FFL copy below — no need to contact us first.

We Receive the Shipment
Once your firearm arrives, we inspect the package, log it into our system, and contact you that it's ready for pickup.

Come In With Valid ID
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. You must be the person named on the order. SC residents must present a SC ID or driver's license.

Complete the 4473 Form
You'll fill out ATF Form 4473 and we'll run your NICS background check. Most approvals come back within minutes.

Pick Up Your Firearm
Once approved, pay the transfer fee and take your firearm home. Simple and straightforward every time.

Not necessarily — you can download our FFL copy directly from this page and send it to your seller. If you have any questions, we're happy to help by phone or email.
Simply bring your valid SC Concealed Weapons Permit when you come to pick up. Show it at the counter and your first transfer fee drops from $30 to $25.
Most checks are approved within minutes. Occasionally SLED/FBI will issue a delay, which can extend the wait up to 3 business days. Delays are outside our control.
No. The person named on the transfer must be the one to pick it up, complete the 4473 form, and pass the background check. No exceptions.
You may pick up a long gun (rifle or shotgun) with valid ID from your home state. Handgun transfers require SC residency per federal law.
We'll contact you as soon as we receive and log your package. You can also track your shipment with the carrier using the tracking number from your seller.
If SLED/FBI issues a delay, we'll hold your firearm and notify you when the check clears. We cannot release the firearm until approval is received.
